Curves inspired by vintage firearm decoration, engraved by hand into black enamel over an 18K gold dial plate. The 5088/100P is a time-only Calatrava in platinum — no complications, no date, nothing to distract from the artisanship of the dial. The 'Volutes and Arabesques' motif demands the kind of close inspection that most watches cannot survive; this one rewards it. At 38mm with the ultra-thin Cal. 240 and a sapphire case back, it's pure Rare Handcraft — the dial is the complication.

Collector's Note

A time-only platinum Calatrava where the entire point is the dial. The hand-engraved enamel 'Volutes and Arabesques' motif places this firmly in Patek's Rare Handcraft tradition — alongside the enamel World Times and the 5738/51G grand feu Ellipse. Within the collection, it makes the argument that craft can carry a watch as completely as any mechanical complication. Paired with the 5538G wood marquetry minute repeater, the two represent opposite ends of the Rare Handcraft spectrum: one purely decorative, the other combining artisanal dial-making with a grand complication.
