Perpetual Calendar Case hand-engraved

Tuesday, 14 March 2017

Open the hinged officer's case and what you find inside is unlike any other perpetual calendar in the collection — or in most collections anywhere. Every surface of the 5160/500G is hand-engraved by a single artisan, making each piece effectively unique. The retrograde date hand sweeps across the dial in a wide arc before snapping back to the first of each month. It doesn't compete with the 5140P or 5270R; it exists in a different register entirely, where horology and decorative art become the same thing.

Collector's Note

This isn't just a perpetual calendar — it's a work of art that happens to tell time. The fully hand-engraved officer case with retrograde date is the purest expression of Patek's handcraft tradition in a grand complication. Believed to be produced in numbers under 20, the 5160/500G is among the rarest references in the entire collection. It alone elevates the collector's credibility from serious client to patron of the craft.
